During NYFW Designer Zang Toi presented his Spring 2023 collection "PRETTY BLACK & WHITE PALETTE."

The event took place at the very elegant and prestigious Harmonie Club on East 60th Street on September 13, 2022.

This season Zang's Spring 2023 Collection was inspired by the scene of a gorgeous young lady with a newly discovered appreciation for the beauty of Haute Couture. She borrows her grandmother's grand ballroom in a chateau to host a black & white soiree for her gorgeous young friends.

The collection included thirty five looks including the opening look which featured White Swiss Cotton Organdy Floor Length Off Shoulder Dress Boardered W/Pleated Ruffles Black Stretch Crepe Body Slip and the Grand Finale which was my favorte.

The Grand Finale included a White Tulle Grand Opera Coat with Pouf-Sleeve and Bordered With Hand Beaded Black Medallion Lace Black kCouture Silk Satin Strapless Mini Dress, Just Gorgeous.

Born and raised in New York City, of Puerto Rican ancestry, Anthony Rubio grew up immersed in his Latin culture loving everything from music and cuisine to the elaborate fashions which inspired his colorful palate and evolution as one of the hottest sought after designers to date.

Anthony created his collection over the summer and was inspired by differents events so he decided to create an eccletic theme with between 50-60 looks including the pet designs where 20 pets modeled his Spring 2023 collection.


With a formal education in women’s wear design and twenty years of experience creating and innovating new concepts and techniques, Anthony Rubio had no reservations about delving into the world of pet fashions earning for himself the title of Master Pet Couturier. The pet industry is estimated to be a Fifty billion dollar industry worldwide and offered an opportunity for Mr. Rubio, who is recognized worldwide, to reach into his world of inspirations to create confections that every dog owner in the know wants to possess.

His creations are strictly Couture and are considered collectible art inspired by anything from movies to fairy tales and especially by the best women’s wear couturiers of Europe. His masterpieces are born from an almost maniacal obsession to achieve perfection stemming from hours of sketching to innovating shapes and forms which are then meticulously executed and finished only when Mr. Rubio is completely satisfied with the final product.


Mr Rubio is on the boards of several fundraising organizations and most recently was honored and awarded quite unexpectedly by The Humane Society for his humanitarian efforts in championing animal adoption. Anthony participates where welcomed to facilitate raising funds and awareness to the plight of animals that have no voices to express their needs or pains to make the world a deserving place for their unconditional love. Mr. Rubio is very dedicated along with his personal muses, twin one year old Chihuahuas Bogie the brunette named after Humphrey Bogart and Kimba the blonde named after a famous anime hero, to help abandoned, lost and abused pets when and how ever they can.


As an advocate for pet adoption. Rubio created “Adopt Me Maybe?” adopt a shelter pet campaign. He started this campaign in an effort to promote shelter pet adoption verses buying a pet in a store. The “Adopt Me Maybe” pet adoption campaign went viral. Bogie and Kimba were the poster boys for the campaign.


Anthony Rubio became the first pet fashion designer to showcase at New York’s Fashion Week in February of 2012. Mr. Rubio has been commissioned by Pepsi Cola Company, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, General Motors, EMI Records among many others.

The modern woman – refined, always elegant, effortlessly looking cool. She is most likely wearing the new collection by Alexandra Popescu-York, made for all the places where a powerful modern woman will go. Alexandra‘s style is unique and artistic, is fashion forward but not fast fashion. She brings together uncommon materials to create monumental art collections that illustrate her prolific imagination. Alexandra Popescu-York, the Romanian-born designer, established in New York for more than a decade and a half, is the only designer in the world who has presented artworks of different categories at the same show, at the same time: a collection of fashion couture and a painting exhibition. She has been painting since the age of three and has studied fashion design and plastic arts at the University of Arts in Bucharest. She also studied at FIT, taking specific classes to perfect her technique. She has worked with many fashion houses in Europe and New York. Trying to make a difference in the Fashion scene, she established her own couture line and luxury dresses. Focusing for 5 years on the creative process and trying to distance herself from anything that it could be a reminder of consumption and fast fashion, now she is trying to find the balance between creation and function.

Her fashion motto? ”I am not creating dresses, but concepts. Not seasonal clothes, but trends, movements, emotions.” ”In anything I do, I try to achieve greatness.” The new collection reflects this. Her collections are made for the resolute New Yorker, the woman who has places to go and things to do and needs a versatile wardrobe. The collection is a celebration of women sensuality combining elegant, classy, sultry, with a glam rock feeling.

She is led by the thought that the most important thing for a designer is that the finished product is original, believing that “authenticity is increasingly rare in the world of fashion”. Many times she will paint directly onto the materials or embroideries or she will completely alter the textures through overlapping. “It is said that you cannot reinvent the wheel, but I am stubborn to prove that you can nonetheless be original in fashion,” says the creator.

Every presentation comes with a new concept inspired by her own experiences. Generally she has two couture presentations per year and, though she follows the trends, she focuses mainly on her own experiences – not copying trends but always trying to introduce elements of art. With a record of 15 shows at New York Fashion Week, Alexandra Popescu York’s creations are unusual, one-of-a kind or limited edition luxury clothes which appeal to modern women.

She’s used to building patterns directly on the model rather than on the pattern table, as other designers often do. Over time she has created dresses without side-seams and with hundreds of stitches, admitting that she rarely uses the classical patterns unless they are needed. „A designer’s individuality consists in using the fabrics and pattern that nobody else uses” says Alexandra Popescu York.

Settled in the US for over fifteen years, she’s built an impressive record of national and international fashion shows and exhibitions.

Beside her many fashion awards and recognitions, her paintings have also been included in the Art Exhibition at the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations.

Graham John Bell - Home of the Brave collection

Graham John Bell’s artistry has been described in the press as "transporting with a certifiably magic eye that unfolds journeys of identity that bushwacks through urban jungles and embracing our most seductive dreams."

No other work expresses this better than his latest collection of imagery showcased on streetwear. It invokes questions around identity and society, while being referred to as “the bastard lovechild of Vivienne Westwood and Helmut Newton.”

As a London-born, award-winning photographer, Graham’s inspiration for this project stems from a belief that people can love whomever they choose and wear whatever they please to express and empower who they desire to become. Its manifesto implies that women have a right to choose-healthcare, fashion and sexual expression–all reflecting a sense of “home of the brave”and land of the free as experienced in the year 2023-not1776.

The artist’s visual arts education began with an early study in the Strobism movement (late ‘80s). Later, Graham studied photography at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was awarded top honors for “mastery”and “excellence” by a professor who worked with “the greats:” Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton and more.

Graham’s extensive experience in the international music scene shaped his unique cultural perspective, while allowing him behind-the-scenes access to capture micro seconds of history that will never be repeated.

Fresh from receiving rave reviews during the February 2022- May 2022 showing at The Brick Store Museum in Kennebunk, some thirty, performance gowns, exclusively culled from the private collection of Jane Morgan, spanning the singer’s illustrious stage, screen, TV career, from the 1950’s-1980’s, will be on view during NYFW at the 3 West Club’s, gracious Pratt Lounge/Living Room, during NYFW. The illustrious location is specifically chosen for inspiration taken from The Met Exhibition, The Costume Institute’s IN AMERICA: An Anthology of Fashion which focuses on the interaction between late 19th-late 20th century American designer fashions, set across a series of rich, period rooms. Famed director, Martin Scorsese, one of nine film directors, selected by The Met to put a cinematic spin on American fashion, created a unique mise en scene vignette; composed the room as a one-frame melodrama, envisioning the eclectic beauty of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie School-style, drawing room, designed in 1912-14, as a living room for a Minnesota home, with its imposing fireplace, oak trim, heavily leaded-glass windows, patterned-glass light fixtures, plush, banquette seating, as the setting for a noir epic, costumed in the creations of famed designer, Charles James. Now, embracing the same genre of what Scorsese accomplished with James’ creations through Frank Lloyd Wright’s living room at The Met, Jane Morgan’s show-stopping, performance gowns are perfectly “fitted” to achieve the highest pinnacle of beauty and style today, set across the quintessential, Old World New York aura of The 3 West Club and the equally luxurious Pratt Lounge – an elegant, simply divine, New York living room, replete with sweeping City views, 15’ ceilings; dark, wooden details, antique furnishings, rich, red carpeting, two marble fireplaces,, baby grand piano, - at the heart of Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall.

For Morgan, who has a Star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame; twice sang at the Oscars; received numerous awards and accolades across her international singing career and is well known for the special gowns she wore for every appearance, including singing for Royalty and Presidents George Busch and JFK at The White House, the time is right to bring the collection to the public. As she says, “They’re just so magnificent. It’s hard to believe I even wore these treasures. Some of them are so intricate and complicated you’d have to have a road map to get into one of them.” Throughout the time-consuming process of unpacking, sorting, selecting the specially made and specifically constructed gowns – “perfect confections”, she notes - showcasing dazzling, luxurious sequins, beading, lace, feathers, embroidery, finest fabrics, for the Exhibition, Morgan worked closely with Bonnie Bien, owner, La Presse PR, who as a teenager, travelled with and personally assisted Morgan for four years. Morgan hand-picked Bien to help with the gown selection/preparation for the Exhibition, particularly because of Bien’s first-hand knowledge of the collection and the famed designers who created the unique, one-of-a-kind gowns; Kathryn Kuhn, Donald Brooks, Stephen Yearick, Ben Reig, Ruben Panis, Oleg Cassini, Gunter Project 2, Monte Streitfield, Don Loper of California The Exhibition, which focuses on Morgan’s desire to find a good and charitable purpose for the gowns which she wore on stage, takes the pieces from the long, packed-away time in boxes, straight to the public eye; international press, media, VIP trendsetters, celebrities, et al, during NYFW. As she explains, “no one was getting to see all these fabulous pieces. My goal was to find the best way to exhibit a sampling of the gowns; share them in a fabulous, Museum setting, the ilk of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where both Kathryn Kuhn and Ben Reig have pieces.

As further testament to Morgan’s legacy and enduring fame, solidifying her and her songs as classic and timeless, The Great American Songbook Foundation paid homage to her in a special presentation, originally released on December 22,2021; viewable now on YouTube: Songbook Sessions: Jane Morgan, Conversations With The Great Artists Of The Songbook Era. Adding more of an honorarium to Morgan’s long-lasting style, her well-known song, “If I Could Live My Life Again”, was chosen for the closing music of Season 2, Episode 10, of the Apple TV hit, “The Morning Show”, starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

For Lee, who has always a fan of traditional tattoo artworks –from the OG Sailor Jerry to Ed Hardy, “the way they’re drawn, the way these pieces are shaded and most certainly the way the colors are used; Teal, Yellow, White, Black and Red, just seems to pop out at the eye.

It was a ton of fun working with this motif, since I feel like I rarely design with more than 3 colors for a single artwork. I haven’t seen anything or anyone using this style of artwork since the late French designer, Christian Audigier. So now, with the 90’s and 2000’s being back in style, I felt that it was only right to pay homage to this iconic artist, as well.”

The Company, which began as Ambition Apparel NYC (“AANYC”), came to be for many reasons, Lee says, mainly because he and his former partner Juan (or Blanco as he was known in the industry) both hailed from New York; both focused their efforts into something which would capture that particular New York aesthetic. But, after Blanco’s passing, and in some ways because of it, Lee had to reconsider how the brand embodied so much more than just one city.

That one key word, ‘Ambition’, originated when Blanco came up with the name in late 2012/early 2013. “He approached me when I was freelancing as a graphic designer; he liked my art and my taste in clothes. He initially had the idea to sell shirts because there were emerging local brands at the time that were starting to make a name in the marketplace and he wanted in.”

Launching and growing his Company took time, focus and effort, says Lee. “From the start, I had a close eye on emerging street, athletic brands like Kith; really liked how they were growing, and I wanted to emulate their aesthetic with our brand to look more polished.”

Prior to Blanco’s passing, Lee changed the Company’s name to Ambition Worldwide, because he wanted to be seen as a global, designer brand, vs. exclusively New York. Personally, Ambition has gained a much deeper meaning to me since my friend’s passing; what started out as a fun project for us turned into something which fuels me every day.”

Even as a young kid, Lee’s creative, edgy, artsy side was always there, and although he was never exposed to designers or artists, he would sketch and draw well-known cartoon and anime characters. And, while he did not pay much attention to fashion until he was thirteen, when, as he puts it, “appearances became more important amongst peers”, his interest in style popped and grew, as he was growing up in a city, especially NYC. “I really got into mixing, matching, pairing pieces, putting things together like the way the cool kids did.”

Lee’s target is to obviously give Ambition Worldwide as much exposure as possible; “we have a lot to say; we have made good progress so far; we’re featured in glossy magazines like Esquire; popular blogs like nicksaysgo.com; talked about and showcased all around Social Media. And, while the clothes are carried in major NYC Boutiques, we’re already looking closely at “in the works” plans for more stores across the country to be added to the roster.”

Anthony Rubio Designs F/W 2022 New York Fashion Week

With all that we have had to endure in the recent past I felt that we need to bring back a sense of dressing up and celebrating as we used to. Enough with the lounging streetwear which out of necessity took over the industry. I love comfortable clothes to do my work, shopping and chores but I like to have that separate time of cleaning up, and dressing for gatherings. I love to see people dressed to impress.

We are living in a time where we are communicating via the internet and gradually bringing back get togethers. We are venturing out to the theater and to restaurants. We are now taking pictures of ourselves with family members including our pets to send out on the internet and impress the world. For this I was compelled to design and present a new line of clothes that show some flare, some polish and in some cases some fun.

I used a lot of sequined fabrics to bring a little glitter. I chose to incorporate metallic textiles in gold and silver but also used black white, grey and royal blue. I created cocktail dresses and gowns for the women.

For the dogs it was all about dressing to the K9's for them to put their best paw forward. I also brought in metallics in the use of sequins and gems stones. There were magical manifestations of tuxedos for the males and ball gowns for the girls all designed with comfort for their needs

The show stopping moment was my introduction of the first ever cat as a model on the catwalk. Instagram famous and fashion influencer Sunglasses Cat flew in from the West Coast just to make her catwalk debut modeling her favorite designer Anthony Rubio Designs. Her dress featured floral embroidery of gold and silver and lavender on grey chiffon.

It was the "FEEL GOOD SHOW'. Everyone in attendance walks out feeling joy and love of man's best friend which are usually forgotten, neglected and at times heartlessly discarded.

I opened my show displaying the message on the big screen stating Adopt Don't Shop to bring attention to the fact that too many cats and dogs are abandoned and need loving homes.

ANTHONY RUBIO SPRING COLLECTION AT SONY HALL

Anthony Rubio Designs Spring/Summer 2022 was a huge success all around. For posterity the full album of every design from various angles is featured on @CFDA’s Runwsy360. Just to remind all, CFDA stands for the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Anthony Rubio Designs puts the canines on the NYFW runways not as accessories or props as has been done by other designers, but as the supermodels escorted by humans modeling my creations as well. Every human gets paired off with a canine supermodel in my canine couture. It is the original and only show that puts the canines on the runways for New York Fashion Week.


This the collection was inspuired by the comeback to NYFW after the Pandemic.

Albright College Debuts on the Runways of NYFW

September 11th, 2021 (New York City) -- Fashion is an industry where new points of view are celebrated. On the evening of Saturday, September 11th, fashion had 9 new reasons to celebrate when Albright College made its NYFW debut during the “9 Collections” Fashion Show. Every designer shown had two things in common – none had previously shown during NYFW before & all of them have graduated or are current students of the venerable fashion program based on the Albright College campus in Reading, PA.

Found in the collections of the 7 recent graduates & 2 current students shown on the Albright runway, was a wide range of collections ranging from “Rose”, a modern, graphic luxe swimwear collection by Josh Polk, to an equally at home by the sea contemporary collection by Jess D’Alessio entitled “Tulú Resort Wear” inspired by the beaches of the Mexican Resort town of Tulum, & even a resort collection that would prove more at home on the streets than on the beach, “Whispering Wings”, by recent graduate Luisana Batista.

Several collections were more conceptual than not like “Versailles XVI” by Stephanie Vargas Hemmings who channeled the extravagance of French maximalist design & mixed it with her Puerto Rican cultural eye, as well as the architecture inspired collection by designer Mandy Boandl who cited modern “birds nest architecture” & the Eiffel Tower as her design touch points. Kaleb Murdock explored the minimal side of conceptual with his collection, entitled “Dissolved Girl” which sat at the crossroads of music, break-ups, & rust, of all things. Rounding out the conceptual section of the show was a recent graduate Ashley Hillegass, who named the growth of the Agricus Bisporus mushroom as her inspiration.

Albright College also has a very robust & celebrated Theatre Costume Design track as part of their Fashion Design Program which was highlighted through the collections of working theater costume designer Elizabeth “Liz’ Polley entitled “Homespun” as a nod to the collection’s root inspiration, and by current Albright student Amanda Castanon who was inspired to create her collection by the Renaissance & the costumes from the era.

Influencer & author, Caroline Vazzana, herself a graduate of the Albright College fashion program, said “I’m so excited I could come out tonight & support my alma mater, Albright College, on their very first New York Fashion Week show! I always love supporting emerging designers & am so happy to be here for these nine designers! The collections were so beautiful, & you could just feel the energy & excitement from everyone in the crowd as the models made their way down the runway! Congratulations to Albright College & to all of the incredibly talented designers, I can’t wait to see what each does next!”

It was a fashion month like no other. The coronavirus pandemic has upended the traditional runway format, and in its place a mix of virtual and, in some cases, physical shows with limited audience numbers has started to roll out.

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) arrived first, running from September 13 to 17 ahead of London, Milan and Paris.

Designer Anthony Rubio did his collection virtually this season.

Mr. Rubio was raised in New York City, of Puerto Rican ancestry, Anthony Rubio grew up immersed in his Latin culture loving everything from music and cuisine to the elaborate fashions which inspired his colorful palate and evolution as one of the hottest sought after designers to date. Growing up in the most rebellious and yet most expressive periods in the history of fashion helped both influence and mold him into the visionary he is today.

With a formal education in women’s wear design and twenty years of experience creating and innovating new concepts and techniques, Anthony Rubio had no reservations about delving into the world of pet fashions earning for himself the title of Master Pet Couturier. The pet industry is estimated to be a Fifty billion dollar industry worldwide and offered an opportunity for Mr. Rubio, who is recognized worldwide, to reach into his world of inspirations to create confections that every dog owner in the know wants to possess.

His creations are strictly Couture and are considered collectible art inspired by anything from movies to fairy tales and especially by the best women’s wear couturiers of Europe. His masterpieces are born from an almost maniacal obsession to achieve perfection stemming from hours of sketching to innovating shapes and forms which are then meticulously executed and finished only when Mr. Rubio is completely satisfied with the final product.

Mr Rubio is on the boards of several fundraising organizations and most recently was honored and awarded quite unexpectedly by The Humane Society for his humanitarian efforts in championing animal adoption. Anthony participates where welcomed to facilitate raising funds and awareness to the plight of animals that have no voices to express their needs or pains to make the world a deserving place for their unconditional love. Mr. Rubio is very dedicated along with his personal muses, twin one year old Chihuahuas Bogie the brunette named after Humphrey Bogart and Kimba the blonde named after a famous anime hero, to help abandoned, lost and abused pets when and how ever they can.

As an advocate for pet adoption. Rubio created “Adopt Me Maybe?” adopt a shelter pet campaign. He started this campaign in an effort to promote shelter pet adoption verses buying a pet in a store. The “Adopt Me Maybe” pet adoption campaign went viral. Bogie and Kimba were the poster boys for the campaign.

Anthony Rubio became the first pet fashion designer to showcase at New York’s Fashion Week in February of 2012. Mr. Rubio has been commissioned by Pepsi Cola Company, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, General Motors, EMI Records among many others.

Rian Fernandez always had a heart for the arts. The expressive quality of his personality can best be seen through his masterworks. Perceived as a designer, he is likened to a museum filled with a thousand masterpieces; colored by joys, ripened by pain.

Together with his countless blessings, his artistry has brought him to many places. Rian studied fashion at LaSalle College of the Arts, Singapore. A celebrity fashion designer and a wedding couturier from the majestic Philippines, his ensemble was featured in Vogue Italia magazine. A piece of his garment was exhibited in Music Through Your Veins in London, England.

His artistic journey continued when he made the most talked about dress of Miss Thailand, Chalita Suansane, for Miss Universe 2016 terno fashion show. He also designed the evening gown of Miss Canada and judges, Dayanara Torres and Cynthia Bailey, during Miss Universe 2016.

In 2017, Rian designed the dress of Kriss Mincey for the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California; and in 2019, he dressed Miss Cambodia, Somnang Alyna, for the 2019 Miss Universe pageant.

Rian joined APU Fashion Week in Japan for Spring/Summer 2017 and Fall/Winter 2018. He is a designer of numerous international pageants including Miss World Nicaragua, Miss Earth, Mutya ng Pilipinas, Miss Grand Thailand 2017, and Miss Universe 2016, 2017 and 2019. He is named as one of the Best Designers of the Northern Philippines, and Outstanding Designer during Pilipinas Fashion And Style Week 2018.

To him, the world may be his stage, but there is more to just playing your role - it is doing it with heartfelt passion.

Adrian’s inspiration comes from his strong familial roots in Puerto Rico. The essence of his beautiful mother is etched into every design. Having been a model himself, he was first discovered at the iconic nightclub “The Tunnel” by Rae Dawn Chong who invited him to walk for Thierry Mugler’s couture show in Paris.

From there his career took off and with persistent effort continued working with the masters of Europe: Hermes, Giorgio Armani, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Gianfranco Ferre, Vivienne Westwood, and Patricia Fields and graced the stage with notable supermodels Iman, Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Debra Shaw, Veruschka von Lehndorff, to name a few. Adrian Alicea has also been featured on the cover of Italian Vogue and has had editorial spreads in major publications like Vibe. He’d eventually tour the world as a professional dancer alongside the legendary Willi Ninja and Grace Jones. This led to two electrifying performances in “Deep in Vogue” and “Waltz Darling” by the multi-talented Malcolm McClaren. He is currently featured in the CAMP Expedition at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art, Manhattan, New York and was presented with the Emerging New Designer Award at the Cinema Film Fashion Awards 2017, Beverly Hills, California alongside Akon, Sidney Poitier and Samuel L. Jackson. Adrian has styled and dressed the likes of many A List celebrities. Larisa Martine, of whom shared the stage with Grammy Award Winner, Joshua Bell at the 60th Lincoln Center Anniversary hosted by Neil Patrick Harris wore one of his stunning designs. He has also dressed and styled celebrities like Zoe Saldana and Nick Cannon.

The House Of Alicea was born out of his life-time love affair with Avant-garde fashion and the purest freedom of an artist. The Carol Galvin Foundation's Official New York Fashion Week Women's Cancer Fundraising Gala returned on February 12th with many celebrity appearances and performances to help raise money for women battling cancer. Support and donation proceeds assist cancer victims financially.

Merchandising, designing, and sourcing the globe for fashion was a dream come true for Ivonne Camacho. Graduating from Mount Ida College, with a focus on Fashion Illustration, Ivonne continued her passion in Fashion Design and Merchandising at The Fashion Institute of Technology and Syracuse University. The highlight of her training took place after meeting famous fashion designer, Oleg Cassini. Mr. Cassini took Ivonne under his wing as a mentorship. Ever since, Ivonne has had the tools that have enabled her to pave a successful career of over 25 years in the fashion business.

Ivonne is the creator of the fashion inspired “Coffee, Tea & Tees.” And, it is because of her innate attraction of potential followers, as well as, immersing designers, and designer friends in the industry, it has enabled Ivonne’s designer database to continue to vastly increase on social media.

This year the gala and fashion show features headlining designers Sara Minervini an American fashion designer who is launching her brand SIRS which specializes in lingerie where her goal is to spread confidence and create garments that women around the world can feel beautiful in. Headlining designer Qaysean is a celebrated fashion designer who created luxury street wear brand ManikinMob. His nickname is "The one hand sewing man" evolved organically because of his ability to cut and sew gowns/tuxedos/outwear with one hand. He has been seen on VH1's Basketball Wives/Season 3 Love & Hip Hop. He is sponsored by comedian and actress Sommore of One Thousand Kisses Inc., an entertainment group affiliated with comedian Sommore.

As in every season, the Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers (CAAFD) hand-picks some of the finest talents in the global fashion industry. This season, the committee decided to focus on a few of their past designers. CAAFD aims to develop more opportunities to more talents with the passion and the ambition to contribute into the world of the global fashion community.

Kadri Klampe is an Estonian-born, founder and designer created Yufash as a unique and forward-thinking brand made for the confident and powerful women of the world, with all garments fabricated exclusively in England. Founded in 2015, Klampe and Yufash have since experienced skyrocketing popularity, including having designs featured on the hit television series Scream Queens. Yufash is one of the few designers chosen as part of the CAAFD’s incubate/nurturing program, returning for her third seasonal showcase after her previous career-defining CAAFD showcases. The Evening wear captures the resilience, strength and elegance of this landscape’s inhabitants. This 16-piece collection features layered beading inspired by wild patterns and structures, combined with Yufash’s signature reflective prints. A stark contrast is found in the meeting of organic influences and Yufash’s signature modernity. The combination of long metallic draped gowns with zebra and leopard beaded gloves, captures the very essence of this season’s collection. An organic strong spirit is evident in waist gathered coats with wide collars, emulating the kings and queens who walk this land.

The Sania Maskatiya brand is best known for their versatile, specialised prints, textile design based on pure fabrics, unique colours, and fine craftsmanship. Indeed the fashion label employs its own in-house printing, embroidery and stitching units with a dedicated team of talented textile graduates. The brands runway shows are much anticipated by critics and patrons alike in India, Pakistan, Europe and the US and to this end consistently showcase at the PFDC and FPW platforms in Pakistan, also having showcased at Lakme Fashion Week in India. The brand showcased at the prestigious Swarovski Sparkling Couture Infinity Exhibit in Dubai in October 2017 which was followed by the critically acclaimed ramp showcase of their bridal ‘Samarkand’ collection at the PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2017 and Luxury Pret collections showcases at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2018 with ‘Color Dash’ and Hum Showcase 2018 with ‘Sahvar’ in Pakistan earlier this year. In September 2018, Sania Maskatiya presented its dedicated western wear line Sania Studio’s Spring/Summer 2019 Collection at the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Showcase. Indeed, a first for a Pakistani designer.

Sania Maskatiya was featured on the cover of Regard magazine with the American supermodel and Hollywood Actress Quinn James of One Tree Hill, Shantel VanSanten. In April 2018, Sania Maskatiya was named as the ‘Creative Guru of the Year’ for Hello Magazine Awards. The brand was also the official wardrobe partner for the Eid 2018 Movie featuring Mahira Khan and Sheheryar Munawar, 7 Din Mohabbat In.

The Sania Maskatiya brand continues to expand both nationally and internationally. Negris LeBrum was inspired from a love story that began during 1940’s, between a young beautiful French Creole woman and a handsome man. Although their love was forbidden by societal difficulties, these individuals were brought together by a force that was greater than the both of them and through fashion their love story is being told to the world. Negris is “aime par beaucoup, admiree par tous, elegance percu”.

Our goal is to consistently meet the desires, needs and expectations of our customers. With high-quality products and services, we build and maintain partner relationships with our consumers. Stevie Boi is an American fashion designer, actor and founder of the luxury eye-wear line & Brand SBShades. Boi designs and sells unisex eye-wear and accessories on his website and in select luxury boutique stores across the globe. Stevie has designed eye-wear for stars such as Kesha ,Beyonce, Madonna, Britney Spears, Katy Perry + many more. Stevie Boi was born in Augusta, Georgia but raised overseas.

He grew up with parents who were in the Army and traveled a lot during his childhood. He started designing in 2007 and quit his job with the military to start his business selling eye-wear. Boi's big break was landing his eye-wear on the cover of Vogue magazine in 2012. Since then Boi's products/designs have been featured in over 900+ Publications/Media Sources. He now is preparing to move into TV and film by acting and pursuing costume design.

ZANG TOI is a renowned Fashion Designer who has built a tradition of elegance for over 20 years. Coming from humble beginnings, Zang was born and raised in a small village, Kuala Krai in Kelantan, Malaysia. He was the youngest of seven children of a local grocer. Zang landed in New York City at the age of 20 where he studied at the distinguished Parsons School of Design. In August 1989, he opened his atelier and soon after, U.S Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour featured Zang in March 1990 issue and was one of the first Asian designers championed by the renowned editor. In 1990, Zang was awarded the Mouton Cadet Young Designer of the Year which recognizes the top, young, U.S. designer of the year. In a Newsday article published in 1991, Frank De Caro enthusiastically noted of the Malaysian-born designer and his success, “If anyone is THE NEXT BIG THING, it’s him.” (Newsday, New York, 29 April 1991). Since that time, Zang’s work has been featured in major publications such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, Financial Times, etc. Not only has he dressed Hollywood celebrities such as Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Taylor, Farrah Fawcett, Kristie Alley, Patti LaBelle, Gong Li, Eva Longoria, Fergie (Black Eyed Peas) and Heather Graham, but has also created luxurious wardrobe for philanthropists and royalty including Melinda Gates and Saudi Princess Haifa Bandar Al Saud. Along with his passion for glamorous fashion, Zang has been an avid supporter of the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LIVESTRONG) and has raised over USD $700,000 to help in the effort in finding a cure for cancer. His was recognized by the foundation in 2008/2009 when he was presented with the Lance Armstrong Foundation Top Fundraiser Award. Zang’s continued success was recognized by Vivid Magazine where he was named as one of the Top 8 most influential Chinese Americans (June-July 2011 issue). Today, after 28 years of being in business, the designer opens his first flagship boutique. On Sept.13, 2017, Zang Toi opened his first store in his company’s 28-year history at 1046 Lexington Avenue. The jewel box is an 800-square-foot unit with marble floors, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, crystal chandeliers and an oversize French mahogany table refinished with white lacquer and shiny chrome. Today, the world continues to recognize Zang’s passion for timeless beauty as he builds on a strong tradition of elegance.

NEW YORK, NY (February 2020) – Under the simple moniker ‘Turkish Designers’, Asli Filinta, Deniz Berdan, Simay Bulba and Hakan Akkaya, each showed strong visions that truly asserted their rightful place in fashions is on the runways of NYFW at Spring Studios, Gallery II. The show, held on Tuesday, February 11th @ 7:00 PM, was generously underwritten by the Turkish Government as well as the Turkish Textile Council.

SİMAY BÜLBÜL:​ Fashion designer Simay Bülbül Sarıpınar brought a different perspective to the fashion design sector, mainly by using leather and by pairing leather and knitting together in her collections. Simay Bülbül brings together her trainings in the UK and the Netherlands and the works she has done in the field of design in the vision for the collections. She also provides design and brand consultancy services to various companies, as well as education, film and various art activities.

Simay Bülbül, first place winner of 2003 Derisigner (Leather Design Competition), brings together simplicity and difference with her leather collections, finished in harmony with her textile products. Simay Bülbül Sarıpınar, who has been active in the fashion industry since 2001, first started to design with her name and label in 2007. Describing the brand identity as “Bohemian Elegance,” the designer dresses women who seek or find their way, feel the design, and love to live outside the boundaries.

Simay Bülbül, who made her first fashion show in Garage Istanbul with the collection of “Fairy Tales Detached From the Reels” in 2008, took place regularly in Istanbul Fashion Days, İstanbul Week and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Istanbul organizations as of 2009. As part of 2010 Istanbul Capital of Culture projects, to represent Turkey, Simay Bülbül Sarıpınar had a fashion show in Germany's Ruhr city in 2011, and after her show in Sarajevo, she presented her collection named Ece at the Korea World fair as a representative of Turkey.

Simay Bülbül Sarıpınar has been a board member of the Fashion Designers Association since 2012. She is also the founder partner of Fikriperver Agency, Perveran (concept store), Muhterif (concept store), KSKM (Capadoccia Art and Culture Center), and Kırmızı Karavan, which designs projects for many brands outside of fashion. Simay Bülbül Sarıpınar, who has been involved in voluntary work with children since 2012, established the Kırmızı Çocuklar Derneği in 2018 to raise awareness around protection of family and the development of protected children.

DB BERDAN:​ DB BERDAN is a young and sharp London based urban lux brand. They are a matriarchal queer brand that loves to use their own prints to tell their stories. They are very much a story driven brand that get their biggest inspiration from the social rights movements, streets and underground cultures. Unifying music, film and performance they really don’t shy away from expressing themselves as much as they can.

DB BERDAN continue to bring a sense of pride and freedom of speech to their collections, D is for diversity. Their socially advanced garments embrace every part of postmodern society in passionate and spirited street wear.

DB BERDAN is for any person who enjoys bold colors and bold statements with sarcastic humor. The brand has achieved great critical acclaim within the industry with their collections being featured across publications such as Vogue UK, Vogue Italia, Gay Times, Paper Magazine and more. Their celebrity fans include Halsey, GIRLI, Lady Leshurr, Dope Saint Jude, Becca Dudley, Stefflon Don, Nadia Rose and many more.

They have been Mercedes Bens Presents DB Berdan two times in a row; one with their AW 2017 in MBFW Istanbul and after with SS 2018 in MBFW Tbilisi. They have collaborated with international corporations like Pepsi, Reebok, Braun, Redbull, Bioderma, Disney Company, Starbucks, Nescafe, Douglas Cosmetic, Ikea, Sunglass Hut, Macro Center, Maybelline NY, and PepsiCo. In 2013, inspired by the movie “Oz The Great and Powerful”, they designed 4 costumes for the European launch of the movie in LWF Somerset house with Nicholas Kirkwood. Also, they were the first Turks that got into the international press release.

HAKAN AKKAYA:​ Hakan Akkaya left Bilkent University Architecture Department on the second year and took fashion design training in Istasyon Art Academy and over the past 19 years has been pursuing his fashion designer career. He had been a department manager in the leading companies of the fashion industry such as Boyner Holding , Altınyıldız and Sarar.

He was the first Turkish designer who attended Who’s Next Paris and Bread&Butter Berlin Fair with his menswear collection in 2012. He had attracted great interest with his fashion shows, both men's and women's collections, for eight seasons in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Istanbul.

Hakan Akkaya was also the moderator and jury of TV shows for six seasons. For Kızılay corporate employees, Hakan Akkaya’s designs made from nanotechnology fabrics with the support of ITHIB (Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association), were presented with a press conference held in Çırağan Palace. He is consultant of ITHIB and has also been part of the ITHIB Fabric Design Contest jury at 2014 and 2018. The finalist’s fabrics become elegant garments at Hakan Akkaya’s Atelier and are presented with a fashion show. His two fashion shows in Turkey ‘120 Days of Sodom’ and ‘Marie Antoinette’ became a sensational news in Turkish and worldwide press. He represented his collections with magnificent runway shows.

Hakan Akkaya became the first and the only Turkish Designer included on the New York Fashion Week Official schedule. He presented his collections in New York Fashion Week in February 2017, September 2017 and February 2019. As well as preparing custom-made designs for both men and women with the brand HAKAN AKKAYA, he is also designing pret-a-porter products

Hakan Akkaya, professional fashion designer for 16 years, left his education in Bilkent University (Architecture) to study Fashion Design at İstasyon Art Academy. After graduation, he started working as Design Department Manager for leading brands including Boyner Holding, Altınyıldız, Sarar among others within the Turkish textile industry. In 2010, he established his own atelier and firm. In 2012, he had the honour of become the first Turkish designer in "Who’s Next Paris" and "Bread & Butter" exhibitions. In addition to having served as a Consultant for the ITHIB (Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association), Akkaya also arranged and presented ITHIB’s 9th, 10th and 11th International Fabric Design Contests. Hakan Akkaya has participated in NYFW: The Shows since 2012.

Before the show I had the chance to interview Chief Executive Officer James Trush of Runway Rogue.

Afterwards backstage I interviewed Miss New York USA Andreia Gibau.

Andreia Gibau of New York City was crowned Miss New York USA 2020 on January 19, 2020 at The Performing Arts Center in Purchase College in Harrison. She will represent New York for the title of Miss USA 2020.

New York designer Raul Penaranda has been making his dream a reality designing luxury women’s wear with an aesthetic that stands apart with a mix of edge and sophistication. Through this uncompromising style, Raul has dared to be himself and only two years after debuting at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was declared by FORBES magazine as one of the fastest growing fashion entrepreneurs to come out of the small business industry with his 100% USA manufactured ready to wear fashion line for women.

Raul was born in Cali, Colombia. He grew up in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to Miami, Florida with his family as a young adult. In 2000, Raul relocated to New York City where he was offered a freelance design position at Liz Claiborne, while enrolled at F.I.T and Parson’s. Over the

next ten years, some of the industry’s most established fashion houses felt his

creative impact such as Oscar de la Renta, DKNY and Tommy Hilfiger. He has held key positions as Creative Director of Merchandise and Trend Services, Senior Designer and Textile/CAD Designer.

Recently during New York Fashion Week, Raul’s burgeoning style culminated in a tremendous showcasing of ready-to- wear designs for Fall / Winter 2017 entitled ‘IGNITE’. Presenting to one of his largest audience to date, Raul did not disappoint as his models posed in designs influenced by the classic style of Film Noir. The result provided looks that were refined and sophisticated, yet sexy and playful, all of which has gained him recognition from the CFDA. Still, Raul is only getting started and with twelve seasons of inspiring collections there is only one demand from the designer … show the world who you are.

Born in Dalian and graduated from Leeds University Art School in the United Kingdom, the designer brand MUKZIN was established in 2014 by Han. She deconstructs the majestic and myriad Chinese traditional culture via original modern costume design and bring about a neo-orientalist aesthetic language in a brand new dimension. Since founding MUKZIN, Han has been invited to join in the opening show of Shanghai Fashion Week for three consecutive years. In 2017, Han won the Pioneer Designer Award from the Asian Fashion Federation. Han launched MUKZIN 2018 AW collection “Jade in the Shadow” series in Paris and gained extensive attention from the fashion industry. Han’s designs embody the “traditional yet rebellious” spirits. Han and her brand MUKZIN are the representatives of the contemporary oriental aesthetics.

Helen Yarmak International and Lang Lang International Music Foundation presented an evening of Fashion and Music during NYFW

The event presented young pianist Eden Chen of Lang Lang International Music Foundation and Helen Yarmak Winter 2020 Collection on Thursday, September 12 at 6:00 pm at the Crown Building in Midtown Manhattan.

I had the chance to chat with both Child Prodigy Musical Student Eden Chen and Leszek Lukas Barwinski-Brown, Chief Executive Officer

Lang Lang International Music Foundation.

Some of the most beautiful furs from minks, sable to fox were shown to members of the press. New to the salon were mink furs dripped in a gold dust including coats, pillows and jackets.

During NYFW I had the chance to chat with Designer Alexandra Popescu York about her Spring Summer 2020 Collection at Art Hearts Fashion. This season's inspiration was all about  "Obsessed"  and  metallics and Alexandra confessed that gold is always her favorite  hue so she always incorporates metallic gold into her collections which are are always glamorous and elegant. My favorites were the metallic gold snake ensembles and suits! Just gorgeous!

Alexandra defines the modern woman – refined, always elegant, effortlessly looking cool. She is most likely wearing ”Desire”, the new collection by Alexandra Popescu York, made for all the places where a powerful modern woman will go. When it comes to fashion, Alexandra’s style is difficult to reproduce. She brings together uncommon materials to create monumental art collections that illustrate her prolific imagination. Alexandra Popescu-York, the Romanian-born designer now based in New York, is the only designer in the world who has presented artworks of different categories at the same show, at the same time: a collection of fashion couture and a painting exhibition. She has been painting since the age of three and has studied fashion design and plastic arts at the University of Arts in Bucharest.

Her fashion motto? ”I am not creating dresses, but concepts. Not seasonal clothes, but trends, movements, emotions.” The new collection reflects this. ”Desire” is made for the resolute New Yorker, the woman who has places to go to and things to do and needs a versatile wardrobe. This collection is a celebration of women sensuality combining elegant, classy, sultry, with a glam rock feeling.

She is led by the thought that the most important thing for a designer is that the finished product is original, believing that “authenticity is increasingly rare in the world of fashion”. Many times she will paint directly onto the materials or embroideries or she will completely alter the textures through overlapping. “It is said that you cannot reinvent the wheel, but I am stubborn to prove that you can nonetheless be original in fashion,” says the creator.

Every presentation comes with a new concept inspired by her own experiences. Generally she has two couture presentations per year and, though she follows the trends, she focuses mainly on her own experiences – not copying trends but always trying to introduce elements of art. Alexandra Popescu York’s creations are unusual, one-of-a kind or limited edition luxury clothes which appeal to modern women.

She’s used to building patterns directly on the model rather than on the pattern table, as other designers often do. Over time she has created dresses without side-seams and with hundreds of stitches, admitting that she rarely uses the classical patterns unless they are needed. „A designer’s individuality consists in using the fabrics and materials that nobody else uses”, says Alexandra Popescu York.

Settled in the US for over ten years, she’s built an impressive record of national and international fashion shows and exhibitions.

Beside her many fashion awards and recognitions, her paintings have also been included in the Art Exhibition at the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations.  Nineteen pieces were shown in this season's collection.

Anthony Rubio Spring Summer 2020

Another Designer who emphasizes glamour and elegance is Anthony Rubio. He also was inspired by metallics with an emphasis on gold!

Born and raised in New York City, Pet Couturier Anthony Rubio originally studied women’s wear at New York’s Fashion Institute Of Technology. It wasn’t until the Spring of 2003 when he started designing for dogs after Anthony rescued a small dog he would named Bandit which had been terribly abused .

Shortly there after, Socialites commissioned these exquisite creations for their four-legged family members and major media outlets started to notice.

Anthony Rubio Designs was born and stands for creating and innovating new concepts and techniques and is strictly Couture. Each garment is created by hand with maniacal obsession to achieve perfection and meticulously executed solely by Anthony Rubio taking into full consideration comfort and safety above all. He is the first pet fashion designer to showcase during New York Fashion Week.

This season I was invited to Hogo McLaughlin Spring Summer 2020 by the controvercial publicist Kelly Cutrone who of course can be difficult. Needless to say I was happy to have a chance to interview the designer and isn't that what it's really all about promoting the designer and his magnificent creations.

Hogan was charming and enthusiastic about talking to me about his Spring Summer 2020 collection. When asked what the inspiration was Hogan replied, "I started with the color palette and there is a film called Belladonna of Sadness that was made in the '70s and that kind of formed the shapes and the feel of it all, twenty pieces were show which made it more concise."

Hogan McLaughlin is an American fashion designer, artist, and dancer. He began his professional career as a ballet dancer, performing with the internationally acclaimed Hubbard Street 2 and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. In 2011, he met and collaborated with artist Daphne Guinness on his first garments, which ended up on display in the windows of Barneys New York Madison Avenue, and at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Later that year, McLaughlin launched his first collection under his name, and was subsequently profiled by The New York Times, WWD, Vogue.com, among other publications, and had the opportunity to create custom looks for a number of high profile clients including Lady Gaga. As an illustrator, he has had the pleasure of creating promotional images for HBO's Game of Thrones, Showtime's Penny Dreadful, and History Channel's Vikings.

Pelham teenagers Vincent Testorf and Julia Corso premiered their Drip Eight Spring Summer 2020 Collection at the Small Boutique Fashion Week at NYFW and broke the internet.

The young dynamo duo decided to bring an innovative edge to their young, contemporary streetwear garments by bringing awareness to irreversible climate changes.

Vincent Testorf and Julia Corso have always wanted to make a positive impression globally. Their efforts on bringing awareness and aid to a major issue with the environment will transend into sales. Ten percent of all sales of their brand will go to various charities such as onetreeplanted.org, which plants trees throughout the world in a fight for clean air.

Co-founders Julia Corso and Vincent Testorf both emphasize the need for community and togetherness. They boast of their New York origins in their clothing. Many catchphrases such as “Conceived in NYC” show their dedication to the city and its people.

Designer Marnita Miller premiered her EBABB Collection Spring Summer 2020 at the Phillipine Center on September 7, 2019.

I took some time to chat with the designer backstage about the inspiration for this season's collectiom. "This year's collectiom was all about color, bright colors....bring in more cheer, I wanted to lighten the load a little bit. So lets dress our kids in what is coming next....the florals, the prints and pair it with lack and white and make it all blend harmonously," reveals Designer Marnita Miller.

Fourteen pieces were shown in the collection.

As a high school graduate this Mississippi-native had high hopes of attending Parson School of Design in New York City but when tragedy struck her family years before, her dreams were met with much reluctance. Yet, never giving up, Marnita’s love for design bloomed into a reality through EFABB COLLECTION finding her muse in her first granddaughter. Every piece created is birthed from the heart of this designer with joy, love and endless hours of happiness. She infuses sophistication and wear-ability with hopes of making everyone wearing her designs feel Fabulous….

Marnita’s prayer is to inspire, encourage, mentor and connect to others with meaning and purpose through the EFABB COLLECTION brand, and her involvement in the fashion industry.

When asked what the inspiration was Designer David Tupaz revealed "Metallics are this seasons inspiration was Oriental with a Metallic theme with variations of Gold." Twenty-three pieces were shown in this season's collection.

David Tupaz moved to Nevada in 2010 and has made Las Vegas his base. He is the only established "Industry and Couture" designer in Nevada. Representing Las Vegas in every major Fashion industry events in the country. The Industry Fashion Show (T.I.F.S.) is a production company that produces fashion events, conventions, expos, as well as fashion presentations during Fashion Week. Our Focus is not just a platform for designers to showcase their collections to the press and media, but we bring industry professionals, retailers, buyers, merchandisers, stylists, fashion PR, and advertising to create interest, connections, and business, between designers ahe industry. We want the runway to be the vehicle that will create sales. The Fashion Industry Show (T.I.F.S.) has a fully equipped production that includes a lineup of house models, hair and make-up artists, production staff, interns, and volunteers.

Public Relations for the event was organized by Ivonne Cammacho from Absolute Moderne.

Merchandising, designing, and sourcing the globe for fashion was a dream come true for Ivonne Camacho. Graduating from Mount Ida College, with a focus on Fashion Illustration, Ivonne continued her passion in Fashion Design and Merchandising at The Fashion Institute of Technology and Syracuse University. The highlight of her training took place after meeting famous fashion designer, Oleg Cassini. Mr. Cassini took Ivonne under his wing as a mentorship. Ever since, Ivonne has had the tools that have enabled her to pave a successful career of over 25 years in the fashion business.

Ivonne is the creator of the fashion inspired “Coffee, Tea & Tees.” And, it is because of her innate attraction of potential followers, as well as, immersing designers, and designer friends in the industry, it has enabled Ivonne’s designer database to continue to vastly increase on social media.

“Our team collaborates and brainstorms on the best strategy for each designer to reach their target audience. There is just so much talent out there, it’s awe-inspiring. I am beyond thrilled to bring my perspective, and expertise to my fellow fashionistas, and introduce talented artists and designers on AbsolutModerne.”

Vivienne Hu Spring/Summer 2020 showcased stylized bobby pins on slicked back hair with cascading curls and sultry cosmetic look; featuring products from the designer’s new cosmetic line due to launch on her website, and in Macy’s the final week of September. The brand will feature four shades of lipstick, a variety of eyeshadows, and eyebrow pencils. Models skin was prepped with Rice Force products.

Celebrities in attendance included Beauty Mogul Nikita Dragun, Real Housewives of Dallas star Stephanie Hollman, model Alana Monteiro and comedian Lorenzo Cromwell. Influencers in attendance included Sharleen Joynt and Olivia Jeanette among others.

Vivienne Hu is a New York based designer. Before her fashion endeavors, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Finance from University of Hohenheim in Germany. She then worked in the Investment Banking industry in New York for over three years. Her decision to change career paths stemmed from her zeal for fashion and her love of creativity and the arts.

After a fashion degree from Parsons School of Design, Vivienne Hu established her brand, and debuted her Spring/Summer collection in 2012. She quickly gained industry experience working at Oscar de la Renta and Yigal Azrouel. With increasing market success, she formally launched her flagship store in Soho, New York in 2013. In 2016, she launched her second store at 107 Mercer Street, also in the heart of Soho, New York. Her designs have been featured in various fashion magazines like WWD, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Bazaar, Art and Designs, and Elegant.

Vivienne Hu has hosted her brand’s New York Fashion Week runway show since September 2014. In July 2015, she was selected as a Swarovski Collective Designer for the Summer/Spring 2016 NYFW show. Her collections exhibit a blend of classic European elegance and New York downtown style, with a touch of exotic Asian taste. Her design concepts cater to women who have a strong sense of independence and a desire for displaying their femininity and personality in a unique way. Laduma Ngxokolo, the brilliant designer behind the South African knitwear brand Maxhosa, which has become a rapid growing fashion export, is no stranger to having his designs showcased in New York. Last year, a cable-knit sweater by Ngxokolo was showcased as part of the Museum of Modern Art’s "Is Fashion Modern?" exhibit and, up until this week, his kaftans were in Bloomingdale's as part of a pop-up inspired by Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King, curated by actress Florence Kasumba. But this season marked the designer's first official foray into the fashion world beyond South Africa showed his spring-summer 2020 collection in the U.S. at New York Fashion Week, part of the “Made in Africa” banner show Thursday, Sept. 5, at Spring Studios.

It's all a collective moment that’s been a long time in the making, following the enormous success of Black Panther last year. Ngxokolo dressed John Kani and his son Atandwa for the Los Angeles premiere of that film and also inspired costume designer Ruth E Carter in her research for the movie’s Oscar-winning outfits.

I had the chance to chat with the designer, who expressed his desire to make all women feel regal and royal especially black women. Actress Lynn Whitfield also expressed her love for the brand as well.
